‘We’re planning a trip to Rome’: Calgarian wins $1M on Lotto 6-49

A Calgarian who won $1 million on a Lotto 6-49 ticket says he plans to use his winnings to take his first vacation in years.

Son Do purchased his ticket from the A Plus 1 Convenience Store on Fairmount Drive S.E. and won the money on the Dec. 17, 2025, Gold Ball draw.

“When I checked the ticket, I didn’t bring my reading glasses,” he said. “So, I called my daughter and said, ‘I saw a lot of zeroes, but I’m not sure how many.’”

After heading home, his daughter used the Lotto Spot app to scan the ticket and confirmed Do had won big.

“I hugged and kissed my wife,” Do said. “We were all excited.”

Though he will be using most of the money to pay for his kids’ education, Do says some will go toward a vacation.

“We’re planning a trip to Rome – specifically, we’ve always wanted to go to the Vatican – my family has always dreamed of it,” he said. “I haven’t had a chance to vacation for seven years.”
