Canadian army veterans spent Saturday volunteering their time to help other veterans. They set up a truck outside the the Walmart in Royal Oak to collect food and personal items for the Veterans Association Food Bank. Organizers say many times when people think of veterans and support, they think of mental health. While that is important, it’s just as important to remember there are other ways to show support and respect for veterans who may need a helping hand. “Military pensions that were never really enough to survive on for for a lot of the older veterans, that kind of thing, and and even with the newer style, to try to leave the military lifestyle, to find a job, to be able to to make a way. Right now, some of these people are struggling to do it,” said Steve Donnelly of the Ypres 3rd Cavalry. This is the 15th year that Canadian army veterans have helped this event.
