Unspecified, unrelated threats prompt lockdown of two southwest high schools

Calgary police locked down two southwest high schools after unspecified threats were received by school administration on Tuesday morning.

Students at both Bishop Grandin and Bishop Carroll remained inside and parents and some students waited outside the schools while police investigated.

“I’m definitely concerned for people that are in the school just wondering if the threats are real threats and whether or not the people there will be alright so I’m just hoping that police will be on top of the task and just keep everyone safe,” said student Abdurrahman Armagan. “I’ll just have to wait like the rest and see what happens.”

Bishop Caroll High School Principal, Neil O'Flaherty, sent out a note to parents to explain the situation and said that the incident appeared to be isolated and the lockdown was initiated as a precaution.

Police say the calls to the schools were unrelated and that the situation was resolved just before noon.
