A woman in her 50s is dead and three people are injured after a crash on 52nd Street N.E. on Monday around 5:15 a.m. Edmund Koelle, who lives nearby, heard the crash and called 911. “The gentleman, the driver, was still in the vehicle at the time. All bloody. No shirt on, no nothing. I gave him a hand, getting him out a bit, and then he didn’t want help. I was trying to get him away from the truck because it was on fire,” said Koelle. Police say the 25-year-old male driver of a Ford F-150 was travelling southbound in the northbound lanes on 52nd Street, south of Temple Drive, when it struck a female pedestrian. The 50-year-old died at the scene. Seconds later, the truck collided with an SUV, driven by a woman in her 30s with a 35-year-old male passenger. Both of the people in the SUV sustained life-threatening injuries. Police say charges are pending for the driver of the truck, who sustained serious injuries. At this time, there’s no evidence impairment was a factor for anyone involved. Excessive speed is being investigated as a contributing factor. “Love your loved ones. Someone said goodbye to their loved one this morning and won’t see them again. It’s sad,” said witness Leah Crichton.
