Beakerhead is back… kind of. The annual festival, first held in 2013, was a multi-day celebration of science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics. Last year, the Telus Spark Science Centre “paused” the festival, saying it needed to consider “how to bring Beakerhead once again to a growing and changing city.” On Wednesday, officials announced a “new chapter” for Beakerhead, a reimagined festival called Petri Dish. “Petri Dish is about creating the conditions for curiosity to grow,” said Guy Labine, president and CEO of Telus Spark. “By bringing together scientists, artists, engineers, community partners and curious Calgarians, we can create something none of us could build alone.” Beakerhead was held every September. Petri Dish will be held Friday, Nov. 6 to Sunday, Nov. 8. In a news release, the Telus Spark says the festival’s rebirth is heavily anchored by “major local corporate support.” “We’re excited to see how Calgary grows with us,” Labine said.
