A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for Calgary Saturday afternoon. The warning was posted by Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) at 2:20 p.m. “Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a cluster of severe thunderstorms capable of producing very strong wind gusts, up to toonie size hail and heavy rain,” it said. “This cluster of severe thunderstorms is located over Calgary and is moving to the southeast at 25 km/h. “Heavy rain may cause flash flooding and significant reductions to visibility. “Large hail may cause significant damage and injury.” ECCC posted a severe thunderstorm watch eight minutes later. “Thunderstorms will continue to develop along the eastern slopes of the Rockies this afternoon and evening,” it said. “These thunderstorms will move to the southeast and may be capable of producing up to loonie sized hail, gusty winds and torrential rain.”
