Run for L’Arche supports independent living programs for people with intellectual disabilities

More than 400 people participate in a fundraising run to ensure L'Arche Calgary can continue to help living with intellectual disabilities.

A group of 450 runners participated in the run for L’Arche Saturday.

L’Arche Calgary supports people with intellectual disabilities through five family-style homes.

Their day programs and supported independent living program provide people a place to belong and be valued.

The overall aim is to create meaningful connections.

The run is the organization’s biggest fundraising event of the year.

“This year alone, we are hoping to fundraise over $60,000,” said L’Arche executive director Ani Hynes.

“It might be one of the highest number of money that we fundraised in one event alone.”

“It’s inspiring,” she added. “We feel very honoured. We feel very lucky, very blessed, having all this support.”

L’Arche Calgary has been operating in the city since 1973.
