Rocky View County issues new high-water advisory

As rain continues to fall and waterways continue to rise, Rocky View County is advising its residents to be careful, particularly those in the county’s western areas.

Officials released a new high-water advisory on Tuesday morning, saying the Bow River’s water flow is “expected to increase in the coming days due to snowmelt and forecast rain.”

“Under the direction of provincial water management authorities, TransAlta is adjusting operations at Ghost Reservoir to create additional storage capacity and support flood mitigation efforts across the Bow River system,” the county said.

“As a result, water levels and river flows downstream of Ghost Reservoir may rise over the coming days.”

Officials said widespread impact is not anticipated, but localized issues are possible.

Meanwhile, it’s recommended residents keep their distance—and keep their children and pets back—from fast-flowing waterways.

It’s also recommended culverts, drainage paths, eavestroughs and downspouts be kept clear, moving water away from buildings.
