Calgary’s newest athletic park officially opened on Tuesday. The Rocky Ridge Athletic Park is a $26 million facility featuring two multi-use artificial turf fields, washrooms, parking, spectator seating and field lighting. It’s located at 9700 Country Hills Blvd. N.W., adjacent to the Shane Homes YMCA at Rocky Ridge. The new park gives Calgarians more room to practice, play, train and compete. “Recreation spaces help build healthy communities and create opportunities for Calgarians to connect through sport,” said Mayor Jeromy Farkas. “Rocky Ridge Athletic Park is an investment in Calgary’s growing northwest and in the public recreation system our city needs for the future.” Calgary now has 15 city-operated athletic parks, with 31 soccer fields. “Quality fields are essential to giving youth the opportunity to develop their skills, build confidence and experience the benefits of team sport,” said Bernie Morton, president of Calgary Minor Soccer Association. “These new fields will provide more opportunities for kids to practice and compete while helping meet the strong and growing demand for soccer space in Calgary.” Construction on the park began in September 2024. Council approved the project back in 2021 as part of its Capital Investment Strategy.
