Fish and Wildlife Enforcement Services are on the hunt for a poacher after a grizzly bear was found dead near Sundre, Alta. The province’s agency made the discovery on the evening of June 14. According to Fish and Wildlife, the grizzly was shot and its body left along Highway 734, “in an area commonly referred to as ‘Rig Street.’” Officers were called to the scene by someone who said they heard a gunshot and saw a truck speeding away. That was around 8:30 p.m., Fish and Wildlife says. Now, Fish and Wildlife is turning to the public for help finding its poaching suspect. Fish and Wildlife says the truck is described as “a black 2003-2006 Chevrolet Crew Cab Duramax diesel truck with tinted windows and a loud exhaust.” Fish and Wildlife says the truck sped north on Rig Street after Sunday’s shooting. Anyone with relevant information is asked to contact Report-a-Poacher via 1-800-642-3800 or alberta.ca/report-poacher. The callout for tips went out over social media on Wednesday. Comments to Fish and Wildlife’s post expressed disdain for poaching. “It’s people like that that make all us hunters look bad,” one said.
