Parks Canada and the Canadian Armed Forces will test howitzers in the Rogers Pass later this week, necessitating some closures. The East Rogers area will be closed Nov. 4 through 7, Parks Canada said on social media. The Trans-Canada Highway will also see intermittent closures during the same stretch of time, the federal agency wrote on Facebook. “Called a verification shoot, this drill ensures the 105 mm howitzers are firing accurately to protect the highway corridor from avalanches in winter,” it said. Closures along the Trans-Canada Highway can be tracked on DriveBC.ca. The program has been running since 1961, but Ottawa has decided to cut it. This will be its last year.
