One of Calgary’s most historically significant houses is hosting a launch party celebrating itself Friday night. Lougheed House is celebrating its 20th anniversary as a museum with a refreshed presentation of its core exhibition, Foundation to Future, which tells the story of the house itself in all its many manifestations, including a stint as a women’s army barracks and the Red Cross. "A site of political power, historic innovation, and community service, this house has lived many lives and has many stories to tell,“ the Lougheed House website says. ”Seasonal exhibitions will continue to activate the spaces while Foundation to Future will be the fundamental storyteller for Lougheed House." There’s an opening night party Friday from 7-9 p.m., with a DJ, drinks and snacks. Saturday there’s a behind-the-scenes tour taking place from 1-2 p.m. led by artist and exhibit designer Peig Abbott. On Sunday, from 1-2 p.m., there’s a tour and then a Q&A featuring MRU history professor Joe Anderson and Lougheed House executive director Shannon Murray, who will discuss the role of historic house museums in our communities. Lougheed House, located at 707 13 Ave. S.W., was built in 1891 and is now an accredited museum. Admission to all three events is free but registration is recommended.
