Hundreds of Calgarians took in summer smells at the Lougheed House over the weekend. The national and provincial historic site held its annual Beaulieu Flower and Artisan Market on Saturday. More than 30 vendors were set up on the south lawn, showcasing their botanical offerings. It’s also a way to bring people in to see the Lougheed House, which has hosted the Beaulieu Gardens since the 19th century. “It’s a site that has had historical significance, again for 135 years,” said Fiona McTaggart, a communications and brand specialist with Lougheed House. “Not just with the original residents but as a publicly-owned site for almost 100 years now. “So it’s really important,” McTaggart added, “because it belongs to everybody and everybody should know that they’re welcome inside.” The gardens are maintained by more than 30 people who dedicate about 1,800 hours each year to help the flowers bloom. Visitors to the grounds were also offered free admission to the museum.
