Lethbridge Polytechnic student wins silver at Skills Canada competition

Lethbridge Polytechnic student Brandon Slingerland placed second in an event at the Skills Canada competition.

A student from Lethbridge Polytechnic has earned national recognition with a silver medal at a recent national skills competition.

Brandon Slingerland , a second-year heavy equipment technician apprenticeship student , represented the school and Team Alberta at the 2026 Skills Canada National Competition in Toronto.

Slingerland placed second in the heavy vehicle technology category.

He currently works as a heavy vehicle technician apprentice at Prairie Truck Centre in Picture Butte and comes from a family of mechanics.

Slingerland says he has long known he wanted to purse a career in the trade.

The school posted a photo of Brandon on its social media and congratulated him.

“Congratulations, Brandon, on an outstanding achievement. We’re proud to have you represent Lethbridge Polytechnic and wish you the best in your future competitions and apprenticeship journey.”
