Lethbridge police team up with Alberta Sheriffs to execute more than 150 outstanding warrants

A new workshop held Thursday by the Lethbridge Police Service in partnership with Diversified Rehabilitation Group was geared toward supporting the spouses and family members of first responders.

A recent partnership between the Lethbridge police and Alberta Sheriff’s fugitive apprehension sheriff support team (FASST) executed more than 150 outstanding warrants during a three-period in early May.

The initiative took place between May 5 and 7, in tandem with a targeted enforcement action “to address crime and social disorder” in the downtown core, according to a media release.

The dual initiatives produced the following results:

• 151 warrants executed, ranging from sexual assault, assault causing bodily harm, commercial break-and-enter and drug trafficking;
• 41 people arrested;
• 49 criminal charges filed;
• 60 incidents of open drug use stopped and drugs seized for destruction;
• 464 doses of fentanyl;
• multiple weapons seized;
• four shoplifters caught in the act; and
• 38 investigations that helped police update information about various fugitives.

Lethbridge police said in a release that the initiative highlighted the importance of strong partnerships between municipal and provincial law enforcement agencies.

They said that using a targeted enforcement initiative focusing on known offenders led to immediate results and helps to prevent future offences.
