A group of Vulcan County residents has been awarded a judicial review challenging the county’s decision to rezone land for a proposed AI data centre. In June, council voted in favour of rezoning 238 hectares for the 400-megawatt build. Concerns have been voiced over the proposed mega-project’s impact on water, power, the environment and light pollution. Residents want the rezoning rescinded and to ensure future decisions about significant industrial projects go through a more transparent and procedurally fair process. The one-day hearing is expected in 2027.
