A gas leak in downtown Calgary forced several buildings, including a daycare, to be evacuated Thursday afternoon. It happened over the noon hour along Third Avenue near First Street S.W. Contractors had just started working when a shut off valve ruptured, releasing a high flow of gas into the air. Several restaurants, a residential high rise and a daycare were cleared out while hazmat and ATCO crews worked to safely secure the line. The evacuation order was lifted a couple of hours later. No one was hurt.
