Calgary’s mayor and one of Canada’s most recognized entrepreneurs and business leaders will be featured speakers at Energy Disruptors: UNITE. Jeromy Farkas and Arlene Dickinson have joined a guest list that includes author Margaret Atwood, former U.K. prime minister Lord David Cameron and economist Tyler Cowen. Energy Disruptors: UNITE aims to “bring together thousands of founders, investors, policymakers, executives, entrepreneurs and innovators.” The event’s goal is “provocative conversations about energy, technology, economic competitiveness, leadership and the forces shaping Canada and the world.” It will take place at the BMO Centre on Sept. 28 and 29. “Calgary has always been a city built by people willing to take risks, solve hard problems and think bigger about what’s possible,” Graeme Edge, Energy Disruptors: UNITE co-founder and CEO, said in a release Wednesday morning. “Arlene and Mayor Farkas represent two different parts of that story: one through entrepreneurship, investment and building companies, and the other through civic leadership and building a city. “We’re incredibly proud to welcome both of them to the UNITE stage in their hometown.” Farkas is Calgary’s 38th mayor and was one of the city’s youngest councillors prior to that, Wednesday’s release noted. In between, he was also a non-profit director, community volunteer and CEO of the Glenbow Ranch Park Foundation. Wednesday’s release said his appearance “comes as Calgary navigates a period of significant growth and transformation.” Dickinson is founder and general partner of District Ventures Capital, Wednesday’s release noted. She’s also a bestselling author, and a television personality known for her time on Dragons’ Den.
