Part of Highway 1 has reopened following a multi-vehicle collision Saturday morning that left one person dead. Lake Louise RCMP issued an update just before 12:30 p.m. Saturday, saying eastbound lanes between Highway 93 and Lake Louise have reopened. “As a result of the collision, there was one fatality,” RCMP added. “Our deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of the deceased.” Earlier Saturday, Lake Louise RCMP described road conditions in Banff as “very icy all the way to the B.C. border.” The province also posted on social media around 9:30 a.m. Saturday, advising that travel on Highway 1 between Banff and Castle Junction is not recommended. This is a developing story that will be updated throughout the day as more information becomes available.
