Calgary Flames games will be found in a different spot on the radio dial in 2026-27, but they will sound pretty familiar. QR Calgary 770, which took over the Flames’ radio rights from the now-defunct Sportnet The Fan 960, announced Thursday that it’s bringing back veteran sports broadcaster Derek Wills to call play-by-play on and Pat Steinberg to host pre-and-post-game. Steinberg will also co-host a new show called Flames Now with Jock Wilson. Wills joined the Flames broadcast in 2014 following the retirement of legendary Peter Maher. Prior to joining Calgary, Wills called games for the Hamilton Bulldogs of the American Hockey League for 13 seasons. “This partnership is about keeping Flames hockey connected to the C of Red and building on the longstanding tradition of Flames radio; a tradition shaped by memorable voices and moments that have brought generations of fans closer to the team,” said Flames and CSEC president and CEO Robert Hayes, in a media release. “We’re thrilled to have Derek Wills and Pat Steinberg continue behind the mic as part of this next chapter, bringing the passion, insight and energy Flames fans have come to know and appreciate over the years.” There was no word on who will serve as Wills’ partner on broadcasts, a role formerly held by Meaghan Mikkelson, who joined Wills on broadcasts in 2023. Flames Now debuts Sept. 14 at 4 p.m. The Flames kick off the regular season Oct. 1 against the Seattle Kraken.
