Daytime highs this weekend will sit closer to average low temperatures

Temperatures expected to change a bit for Calgary. Jodi Hughes has a look at the five-day forecast from the Sky Watch Weather Centre.

A large polar air mass remains parked over the western half of the country allowing cold weather to persist.

This weekend will include a slight warmup compared to the previous few days; however temperatures will still sit around 10 degrees below average.

The normal high in Calgary this time of year is 0 C with a low of -11 C.

The highs on Friday, Saturday and Sunday will range from -9 C to -11 C with lows between -15 C and -21 C.

A low-pressure system will elongate through the Pacific basin parallel to the West Coast over the next 24 hours.

As that low starts to break off there will be a bit of a rebound in the mid-latitude jet stream and warmer air will flood into southern Alberta.

Daytime highs in Calgary will jump up to 1 C by Monday and peak at 6 C by the middle of next week.

Light snow fell over the Calgary area early Friday, leaving some roadways snow-covered for the start of the morning commute.

The next significant chance of precipitation for Calgary will be at the start of next weekend, with a slight chance of light, scattered flurries this Sunday.
