A rockslide has closed a popular trail system in Canmore, Alberta Parks says. The agency said the incident occurred in the Grassi Lakes area on Wednesday. The Grassi Lakes Interpretive Trail, Grassi Lakes Upper Trail and Reclaimer Trail are all closed, but the Riders of Rohan Trail is open. Officials say the road between the Grassi Lake turnoff and the top of the hill is also closed due to the rockslide. “Travel is prohibited for all road users including vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians to ensure public safety,” Alberta Parks said in an online advisory. “A rockslide has resulted in dangerous conditions for all road users. Unsupported rock remains above the road and could result in a second slide. As area assessments are ongoing, the timeline for repairs and reopening remains uncertain. “Please respect all closures and stay clear of the area.” The closure is in effect until further notice.
