Calgary weather: Foggy start to a warm day; thunderstorms possible

Daytime highs will remain well above seasonal for the next seven to 10 days, with temperatures in the high 20s and low 30s across southern Alberta.

A low-pressure system in British Columbia produced some fast-moving thunderstorms in the southeast portion of the province during the morning commute.

That same disturbance will cross over the Rockies during the day and could lead to some isolated showers and thunderstorms along the foothills in the late morning and early afternoon Wednesday.

That trough will move across the central and southern portion of the province during the day, with showers and thunderstorms likely around the QEII by the early to late afternoon and evening.

Calgary is at a moderate risk of some active weather Wednesday and again Thursday, but if that does occur, rainfall accumulations should be minimal.

As those storm cells continue to track east on Wednesday, they will likely gain both support and energy, and there is a chance of rapid intensification.

Larger-sized hail, pockets of heavy rain and damaging wind are all potential threats, but the risk is greater as this system reaches the eastern border of Alberta and moves into Saskatchewan.

Daytime highs will remain warmer than average for the final half of the Calgary Stampede, ranging from 25 C to 28 C, with lows between 12 C and 15 C, and conditions will lean toward dry.

The normal range for temperatures in Calgary this time of year is 22 C for a high and 9 C for a low.
