Calgary Vietnamese community celebrates Year of the Horse

Around 2,000 people were expected to attend a Vietnamese New Year celebration Saturday night in Calgary.

Calgary’s Vietnamese community welcomed in the Year of the Horse Saturday night.

“We are hosting our annual Lunar New Year celebrations,” said Diane Pham, VP External of the Calgary Vietnamese Canadian Association.

“We do this every year, and on average, we have about 2,000 folks who come to attend the event. It connects them to their heritage, as well as exposes the young generation to their roots, and hopefully they will be more involved in the community as they get older.”

The celebration included performances, food and cultural displays.

The Year of the Horse is associated with energy, freedom, confidence and forward momentum.
