Islamic History Month was celebrated Friday at a Calgary school. The Calgary Islamic School hosted a heritage fair. Students filled the gym with interactive displays. They’ve been working on the project since the beginning of October, and said they were proud to share their cultural diversity with the community -- and each other. “We’re hoping that people can take away that Muslims and the Calgary Islamic School, particularly, is filled with lots of people, lots of stories, lots of origins, and we’re hoping that people come to see that Islam is a multicultural religion, and everybody’s welcome,” said teacher Umaiman Samari. “This helps us show and express how we are, how we connect our own culture from our backgrounds to Islam, and how we use Islamic teachings to impact our everyday lives,” said grade 8 student Nuaym Ahmed. October was proclaimed as Islamic History Month by parliament in 2007.
