Calgary’s popular Fourth Street Lilac Festival returns this weekend. The free one-day festival is held every June, and features food, shopping, live music and family-friendly fun. It takes place on Fourth Street S.W. between 12 Avenue and Elbow Drive S.W., and 17 Avenue S.W. from Second Street to Fifth Street S.W. Event producer Jennifer Rempel says though Lilac Festival started as a small community event, it has grown into a Calgary tradition. “It’s a celebration of Calgary’s creative spirit and cultural diversity,” Rempel said in a news release. “As our city continues to grow, so does this festival.” This year, festivalgoers will notice a new stage at 17 Avenue and Fifth Street S.W., sponsored by CJAY92, adding even more live entertainment and energy to the festival experience. Also new this year, the Central Memorial Park tent will continue on after Lilac Fest wraps up, with entertainment until 9 p.m. For more information on the festival, you can visit the Lilac Festival website.
