3 charged after incident that allegedly saw 2 vehicles tear through north Calgary

Calgary police say the first of two vehicles involved in a dangerous situation earlier this week sped off as officers approached.

It happened Monday around 9:05 p.m. in the 100 block of Del Rio Place N.E.

Officers were checking out reported suspicious behaviour around a vehicle.

Police say two people fled in the vehicle, a grey Volkswagen Jetta, which turned out to be stolen.

Police called in a helicopter to track it.

“The driver continued to drive dangerously, travelling through red lights and nearly causing several collisions,” police said in a release issued Friday.

According to police, the fleeing pair ditched the Jetta somewhere along Centre Street North and got into a Ford F‑150 that pulled up alongside it.

Police say the truck then became the getaway vehicle and that its driving “became increasingly dangerous.”

“Due to the risk to the public, officers deployed a tire deflation device,” police said.

“The truck came to a stop in the parking lot of the Real Canadian Superstore located at 3575 20th Ave. N.E.

“Three occupants of the truck, two men and a woman, exited the vehicle and entered the store.”

Officers arrested a woman and two men in the store.

Police say search warrants were executed on both vehicles.

Police say two airsoft guns, 14.1 grams of methamphetamine, multiple bank cards and an identification card were seized as a result.

Charges laid

Adrienne Elizabeth Visser, 29, is charged with:

• possession of stolen property over $5,000 (x2);
• possession of a controlled substance;
• dangerous operation of a motor vehicle;
• flight from police;
• failure to comply with a probation order (x10);
• failure to comply with release order conditions (x4);
• driving while disqualified or prohibited;
• driving an uninsured motor vehicle;
• abandoning a vehicle on a highway; and
• driving a motor vehicle while unauthorized.

Matthew Lee Grouette, 39, is charged with:

• possession of stolen property over $5,000;
• dangerous operation of a motor vehicle;
• flight from police; and
• driving an uninsured motor vehicle.

Lane Cole Zimmer, 63, is charged with:

• possession of stolen property over $5,000 (x2);
• failure to comply with release order conditions (x2);
• possession of a prohibited firearm (x2); and
• possession of a weapon dangerous to the public.

Visser was scheduled to appear in court Friday, while Grouette is set for court July 7 and Zimmer is due June 30.

Investigation is ongoing.
