Two Calgary men are facing charges in connection with a shooting in northeast Calgary earlier this month. Police say a group of people were confronted by two men on March 3 in the parking lot of the Genesis Centre at 7555 Falconridge Blvd. N.E. As the confrontation escalated, one of the men pulled out a handgun and fired two shots at the group. One person was injured and transported to hospital by other members of the group in stable condition. The two men fled the scene. The incident was recorded on the Genesis Centre’s security cameras, and police were able to identify the suspects. Police say officers executed a search warrant at a home in the 0-100 block of Templehill Crescent N.E.on Tuesday and two men were arrested. Sohrab Rob Rashed, 34, of Calgary is facing several charges, including aggravated assault and various firearms charges. Romal Sidiqi, 33, of Calgary, was charged with discharging a firearm with intent, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle. Police say the suspects and the victim knew each other, and added they believe the shooting followed a previous confrontation between the parties. The shooting is not believed to be connected to recent extortion cases in Calgary, police say. “This was a reckless shooting, in a public space with many bystanders,” said Staff Sgt. Ray Kelly in a media release. “Gun violence continues to be a concern in Calgary and we are focusing on getting those guns off the streets, reducing victimization, and enhancing community safety.” Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 403-266-1234.
