Calgary’s fire department says a basement fire at a home in the city’s southeast has displaced two adults and nine children. Firefighters were called to the blaze at 126 Pennsburg Way S.E. just before 2 p.m. on Monday. Alex Kwan, the Calgary Fire Department’s public information officer, says crews arrived to a single-storey duplex that had smoke flowing out from the basement unit. He said firefighters located a fire in the kitchen of the unit and put the fire out. The unit — which was occupied by two adults and nine children — has been deemed uninhabitable, Kwan said. Residents of the other unit in the duplex will be able to return home. Kwan said everyone had gotten out of the building before fire crews arrived on scene and no injuries were reported.
