Nearly 1.4 million toaster ovens are being recalled in Canada and the U.S. over a burn hazard. Announced Thursday, the recall impacts “Oster French Door Toaster Countertop Ovens,” which feature spring-loaded glass doors with metal handles. “The oven’s doors can unexpectedly close, posing a burn hazard to consumers,” a Health Canada recall explains. Consumers are being urged to “immediately stop using the recalled product” and contact the company for a free repair kit. According to Oster’s parent company Newell Brands, the recall impacts 104,195 units sold in Canada and 1,290,000 sold in the U.S. between January 2015 and July 2025. While there are no reports of injuries in Canada, there have been at least 95 incidents resulting in burns in the U.S., including two cases of second-degree burns that required medical attention. In an online statement, Oster said the majority of “these injuries involved burns consistent with everyday kitchen use and comparable to what can happen with common cooking appliances.” “We’re providing a free repair kit with a clip-on device that helps keep the oven doors securely open during use,” the company added. “Oster is not offering refunds or replacements.” The recall affects four different versions of the toaster oven with model numbers TSSTTVFDXL, TSSTTVFDDGDS, TSSTTVFDXLPP-033 and TSSTTVFDDAF-033, which can be found on the back of the device. The models can have analogue or digital controls. All feature the “Oster” brand name engraved on the front.
