Chemical, strangulation and choking hazards: Several children’s toys being recalled from this brand

Nine different products from the KiddoSpace brand of children’s toys are being recalled for several health and safety hazards. All products are listed on Health Canada’s recall page.

Anyone with the following products is asked to keep them away from children and contact TheKiddoSpace for a full refund. Consumers can do this by visiting the company’s website and clicking “Product Safety Recalls” at the bottom of the page.

The recalled products are:

TheKiddoSpace’s Children’s Story Books

Product: These soft fabric books are about seven inches by eight inches in size and are made up of six felt pages. The cover features a rainbow and clouds.

Issue: The book’s felt parts can come apart, which poses a choking hazard. As of May 14, there have been no reports of injuries in Canada.

Units sold: The company says 22 units of this product were sold in Canada between August 2023 and February 2025.

TheKiddoSpace Children’s Sensory Swing

Product: The product contains a swing with a stretchable hammock made of soft fabric that was sold in green, grey, blue and pink colourways and in themed prints: ocean, jungle, space and fairytale. It includes the following installation hardware: a mounting kit with carabiners, screws, a ceiling plate, daisy chain straps and a rope. A separate white washing bag is also included, which is packaged in a blue drawstring storage bag with the brand’s logo printed on the front.

Issue: The hammock’s flexible fabric can form loops, which risk entangling a child’s head or neck, posing the risk of “serious injury from strangulation,” according to Health Canada. As of May 14, there have been no records of injuries in Canada.

Units sold: The company says 125 units of the product were sold in Canada between November 2023 and February 2025.

TheKiddoSpace Finger Painting Kits

Product: A fingerpainting kit with one round paint palette that comes with 12, 25, or 36 colours and one or more colouring books with between 14 and 40 pages.

Issue: The products contain methanol and ethylene glycol, hazardous substances, “which may be an irritant,” according to a recall notice. The kits also contain “phthalates, which are toxic if ingested by young children and can cause adverse health effects, posing a chemical hazard.” While there have been no reports of injury or incident in Canada, the company has received 18 reports worldwide “of strong paint odor, skin irritation and swollen lymph nodes.”

Units sold: There were 2,090 units of the product sold between August 2023 and February 2025.

TheKiddoSpace Handwriting Practice Kits

Product: Two types of practice kits - “Print Handwriting Kits” and “Cursive Handwriting Kits”- sold with or without a carrying cases, which contain pens with ink refills.

Issue: The pens included in the Handwriting Kits have lead in amounts that exceed Canadian regulations, which if ingested by young children, can “cause adverse health issues.” As of May 14, there have been no reports of incidents or injury in Canada.

Units sold: Between January 2024 and February 2025, 2,141 units of the product were sold.

TheKiddoSpace Peg Dolls in Cups Toy

Product: Coloured wooden peg dolls in cups in matching cups and a circular natural wood tray.

Issue: If put inside a child’s mouth, the peg dolls pose a risk of choking. As of May 14, there have been no reports of injury or incident in Canada.

Units sold: Between July 2023 to February 2025, four units of the products were sold in Canada.

TheKiddoSpace LED Soccer Hover Ball

Product: An LED soccer hover ball with white foam bumpers, which measures around 14 cm in diameter.

Issue: The surface temperature of the toy’s batteries “exceeds the allowable limit, which violates the standard for toys, posing a risk of burn injuries.” As of May 14, the company has received four reports of overheating and burning smell, but no reports of injury in Canada.

Units sold: Between December 2024 and February 2025, 69 units were sold in Canada.

TheKiddoSpace Children’s Flashcard Talking Toys

Product: Flashcards and talking toys in two variations – animal-shaped, pastel-coloured toys with flashcards, and rectangular toys with a speaker volume and power buttons on the front.

Issue: The flashcards “contain levels of phthalates and lead that exceed the allowable limit and may pose a chemical hazard.” As of May 14, there have been no reports of incident or injury in Canada.

Units sold: Between November 2023 to February 2025, 265 units of the products were sold in Canada.

TheKiddoSpace Children’s Montessori Egg Toys

Product: Six or 12 plastic eggs that split in half and come in a yellow storage case. The half eggs contain different coloured geometric shapes that fit with its matching pair.

Issue: The product is meant for kids under the age of three, and pose a risk of choking. As of May 14, there have been no reports of incidents or injuries.

Units sold: Between September 2023 and February 2025, 11 units of the product were sold in Canada.

TheKiddoSpace Children’s Christmas Tree Toy Play Sets

Product: A Christmas tree toy play set made of felt, that is about 40 inches high and 28 inches wide. It includes holiday-themed felt ornaments, and a storage box.

Issue: The zipper pull on the music box compartment contains lead, which could cause adverse health issues if ingested by young children. Additionally, the battery on the Christmas tree component poses an ingestion hazard. As of May 14, there have been no reports of incidents or injuries.

Units sold: Between November 2023 and February 2025, 71 units of the product were sold in Canada.
