TORONTO - "Billy Elliot" will bring his ballet steps to Toronto next January.

Producers say the touring production of "Billy Elliot the Musical," about a British boy who longs to dance, will land at the Canon Theatre on Jan. 28 after it closes in Chicago.

Mirvish Productions hasn't announced who will play the starring role in the Toronto production, but Montreal's Cesar Corrales has been sharing the part in the Chicago run.

Two other Canadians have also played Billy on Broadway: Montreal native David Alvarez, who won a Tony Award for the role, and Liam Redhead of North Bay, Ont.

Kate Hennig of Toronto is also in the Broadway production playing dance teacher Mrs. Wilkinson.

The 10-time Tony Award-winning musical, which is based on the acclaimed 2000 film, has music by Elton John and a book and lyrics by Lee Hall.

Stephen Daldry, who directed the film, also helms the stage show that has choreography by Peter Darling and debuted in London in 2005.
