It’s been seven days since a large part of central Barrie remains cordoned off by police as a lengthy investigation continues. Frustration mounts in the community as few details are known. Detectives have been spotted working in the wooded area for days now. Details are scarce surrounding the large police presence, but here’s what we know about the week-long investigation: Wednesday, July 30 - Cordoned off Yellow police tape blocked off Victoria Street, John Street and Anne Street South as officers secured the scene at the homeless encampment Wednesday night. There were roughly 40 residents living in the now empty encampment. Members with the Busby Centre told CTV News that they have been in the area assisting the community. Saturday, Aug., 2 - Man arrested The primary suspect in the investigation who police believed to be armed and dangerous has been arrested and faces 19 criminal charges. 52-year old Robert Ladouceur from Barrie, was taken into custody Saturday after a warrant was placed for his arrest. Court documents obtained by CTV News show he faces a laundry list of weapons charges related to a handgun and fleeing from police. Some of the charges include; careless storage of a firearm, ammunition or prohibited device, possessing a restricted firearm, illegally possessing ammunition, transporting a firearm and dangerous operation of a vehicle. OPP has been assisting Barrie Police in investigations over the last few days including an arrest made in Midland. Police say Ladacouer was last seen in a Dodge Avenger. While unconfirmed that Ladacouer was driving, photos reveal a smashed up Dodge Avenger and multiple police cruisers damaged. The allegations against him have not been tested in court. Tuesday, Aug., 5 - OPP assist in Huntsville area Detectives from the Barrie Police Service Major Crime Unit, as well as additional resources from investigative services, were present in the area Tuesday as well as another location in Huntsville. A large presence of officers can be observed in the area of Yearly Road near Cardwell Lake Road. It is unclear how this area ties to the Barrie investigation. “To ensure that detectives can conduct a thorough and comprehensive investigation, the Barrie Police Service is not able to provide additional details,” said Peter Leon, corporate communications coordinator with the Barrie Police Service on Tuesday. Wednesday, Aug., 6 - Helping displaced residents The local foodbank says they are helping those displaced and will be open for people who need to utilize the foodbank in any capacity. At this time, the investigation is isolated and police say they will continue to be on scene until further notice.
