Barrie residents can now cast their ballots in the 2026 municipal and school board election. Voting opened Friday at 10 a.m. for mayor, councillor and school board trustee races. The city says eligible voters can cast their ballot online or by phone until 8 p.m. on election day, Oct. 26. Voters need the Personal Identification Number included in their Voter Information Letter and their date of birth. Anyone who has not received their letter can contact the city’s Election Office. Six assistance centres will be available at Allandale Recreation Centre, City Hall, East Bayfield Community Centre, Parkview Centre, Peggy Hill Team Community Centre and the Surface Water Treatment Plant. The centres will be open Oct. 22, 23 and 26 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Oct. 24 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Barrie’s ward boundaries have also changed after a review completed last year. Voters are encouraged by the city to check the ward listed on their Voter Information Letter, as some residents may be voting in a different ward this election. Unofficial results are expected after voting closes at 8 p.m. on Oct. 26. The new 2026-2030 Barrie city council term begins Nov. 15.
