Provincial police in Bracebridge say they are investigating after a video surfaced online showing a group of people firing shots into the air. The footage, which has circulated on social media, shows weapons being discharged in what police describe as a careless and unsafe manner. Officers say this behaviour is dangerous and could result in serious criminal charges. Under the Criminal Code of Canada, anyone found to be using a firearm carelessly could face charges, such as careless use of a firearm, mischief or destruction of property, and unauthorized possession or discharge of a firearm. “These laws exist to ensure public safety and responsible firearm ownership,” the OPP stated. “Firing weapons without proper regard for safety or surroundings is a serious criminal offence in Ontario." Police warn that those convicted could face fines, firearm seizures or even time behind bars.
