Ontario Provincial Police and crime unit officers are investigating what the authorities are calling a “serious incident” in a wooded area in Gravenhurst. Police say two people were reportedly assaulted in an area west of Muskoka Road South just before midnight on Tuesday. The two individuals were taken to a hospital for treatment of serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Their identities were not disclosed. Police officers descended on the area of Muskoka Road South/County Road 169 and James Street in Gravenhurst in the early morning hours on Wednesday, and are advising residents in the area of Muskoka Road South and Manitoba Street, north of Monck Road in Bracebridge to expect a heavy police presence, including tactical and K9 units, plus forensic officers, with the investigation underway. While police didn’t reveal whether they are looking for any suspects, they did confirm there is “currently no threat to the safety of the general public.” Bracebridge OPP urges anyone with information to contact the detachment at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers to remain anonymous.
