Provincial police are investigating a shooting that happened early Friday morning at a Caledon business. According to Caledon OPP, the incident happened at around 1 a.m. in front of a business on Perdue Court. No injuries were reported. The OPP recently sounded the alarm on the increased number of extortion cases across Caledon. Specifically, the Caledon and Dufferin County detachments say they have investigated more than 45 extortion cases since 2023. They involved threats, and in some cases, gunfire at homes or local businesses. Caledon OPP deemed Friday’s shooting as ‘targeted’ and the OPP public information advisor (PIA) later confirmed to CTV News that it is being investigated as an extortion-related incident. “The OPP urges community members to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activity to police,” said the OPP in its Saturday news release. The ongoing investigation is being led by Caledon OPP’s Major Crime Unit and the OPP’s Criminal Investigation Branch. Anyone with additional information or footage of Friday’s incident is asked to come forward.
