Police have laid charges against a man from Barrie, as they alleged the man filed false reports. On Aug. 4, police say they responded to a report of an assault that led them to the area of Puget Street near Shanty Bay Road. Around 9:30 p.m., police found a 25-year-old man suffering from a stab wound to his leg. Police allege the man told officers he had been assaulted and provided them with a description of the person who did it. The injured man was transported to the hospital for treatment, police say. Officers then began to search for the suspect, with the help of the K9 unit and forensics. It took police two hours, but officers found and arrested a person matching the description. Police say after some more investigating, they determined no assault had occurred and the injured man’s wounds were self-inflicted. The man arrested was released unconditionally, police say. The 25-year-old man is now facing a charge of public mischief.
