A Barrie man’s car has been impounded and his license suspended after allegedly getting behind the wheel while extremely intoxicated. Police say a restaurant employee called them to the area of Fairview Road and Essa Road around 10:20 p.m. warning that an intoxicated customer had gotten into a car in a parking lot in the area. Upon arrival, officers claim they found the car with its engine running and a man in the driver seat. Police claim to spot a beer car in the centre console and alleged ‘a strong odour’ of alcohol came from the car. Barrie police claim when the man got out of the vehicle, his eyes were glossy and bloodshot, his speech was slurred and he had difficultly maintaining his balance. He was taken into custody where police say the driver’s breath test allegedly showed him to be four times over the legal alcohol limit. The 44-year-old was Barrie resident was charged with impaired operation in additional to having his license suspended and his vehicle impounded.
