The Ontario Provincial Police says it hopes more women will join the force in the near future. On Thursday, the police service held an event at its Orillia headquarters to celebrate women in police while committing to try to recruit more female officers by signing the 30Forward pledge. “We want to thank you, for bringing 30Forward to the OPP, ” said Commissioner Thomas Carrique. 30Forward is a national initiative that aims to encourage policing organizations around Canada to have 30 per cent female representation in their work force. “You have my commitment, you have our commitment that we are going to do our best to strive to recruit 30 per cent female,” Carrique said. According to the latest available numbers from the OPP’s 2024 annual report, 21 per cent of the OPP work force is female.
