Ontario Provincial Police is pushing back against a long-standing myth that parents must hold off for 24 hours before calling for help. The service took to social media to stress there is no waiting period in Canada when it comes to a missing child. “If you believe your child is missing or has run away, report it to police immediately,” OPP stated. Officers say seconds matter in missing persons cases, and quick reporting gives them a better chance of finding a child safely. Police also encourage keeping up-to-date photos of children, noting it’s one of the most effective tools in a missing person investigation. “When we get calls about missing family members, one of the first things we ask for is an up-to-date picture to assist officers in their search,” police stated. Anyone concerned about a child’s whereabouts is encouraged to call their local authorities or 911 as soon as possible.
