A major road closure is coming to south Barrie as work gets underway on the Hewitt’s Creek culvert installation along Mapleview Drive East. The city says Mapleview Drive East will be shut down between Chef Lane and Royal Jubilee Drive/Lally Terrace starting next Mon., June 8, to Nov. 20. Detours will direct drivers through Yonge Street, Big Bay Point Road and Prince William Way. According to the notice, Barrie transit routes 12A and 12B will also be detoured during this phase, meaning that these routes will not directly service the Barrie South GO Station. A free shuttle service will operate on both sides of the road closure to help direct access to the Barrie South GO Station and Maple Ridge Secondary School. The culvert installation is part of Barrie’s ongoing transportation improvements to support future growth to 2031.
