Preliminary hearing dates have been set for Ahmet Duzguner, the Alliston-area man accused of first-degree murder in his ex-wife’s August 2022 killing. Ahmet Duzguner, 52, was arrested a year ago and remains in custody. Police believe he orchestrated his ex-wife’s execution-style shooting in front of her Alliston home. It has been about three years since Sibel Duzguner, 38, was found dead with several gunshot wounds inside her car on her driveway. Police said Sibel was about to head to work at 6:25 in the morning on August 26, 2022, when a grey 2011-2012 Volkswagen Jetta was captured on surveillance cameras driving up to her home along Kidd Crescent. The vehicle was then seen blocking Duzguner’s car. Police believe someone got out of the vehicle and shot Sibel repeatedly from her driver side window. Investigators believe she was targeted. CTV News has confirmed Ahmet Duzguner was Sibel’s ex-husband with whom she had three children. Police said Sibel immigrated to Canada from Türkiye in 2003 and lived in the Alliston home with her children after moving from the Toronto area. Police revealed she was planning to remarry. Following her death Sibel’s family in Türkiye issued an emotional plea for help solving the case. They expressed grief and urged the public to come forward with information leading to the arrest of those responsible. Police also announced a $50,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction of those responsible for Sibel’s death. Eight months later, Ahmet Duzguner was charged with her murder. Evidence heard in court prior to trial is protected by a publication ban, The preliminary hearing is scheduled for fifteen days in July. Ahmet Duzguner makes his next virtual appearance in May from jail in Penetanguishene. The allegations against him have not been tested in court. Related Articles
