Police say they caught a driver on Highway 11 in Orillia watching a movie on their cellphone while behind the wheel. The alleged incident was spotted by an officer with the Orillia OPP, who observed the driver actively watching a video while cruising down the highway. Police stopped the Jeep on the shoulder and issued an offence notice for distracted driving. “This type of behaviour is unacceptable and puts not only the driver’s safety at risk but also the safety of all motorists on our roads,” said the OPP in a social media post. “No text, call or video is worth a life.” With the summer travel season approaching and traffic volumes expected to hike across Central Ontario, officers say they will continue spearheading distracted driving.
