The Orillia campus at Georgian College has officially closed with classes wrapping up as of April 22. While in September officials had said the Orillia campus would close this summer, a spokesperson for the college told CTV News “the transition timeline was always planned for this period.” The college says Student Services is currently transitioning over to the Barrie campus in the coming weeks. The Georgian College Veterinary Hospital, a teaching facility that trains veterinary technician and assistant students, will still operate out of the Orillia campus while a new state-of-the-art facility is being built at the Barrie campus. The Orillia campus first opened in 1969 at which point it operated from a temporary downtown location. In 1980, the college expanded and moved to the Memorial Avenue campus. In addition to classroom buildings, the Orillia campus had a fitness centre, an Indigenous resource centre, theatre, counselling labs and a residence making up a total of 136,000 square feet. The college announced in September 2025 its plans to shut down both the Orillia and Muskoka campuses. Previous to that, the college announced it would be suspending programs at the Collingwood campus.
