Freezing rain, slippery conditions expected across Simcoe County

Here’s a look at the forecast for the week of Jan. 5.

Mother Nature isn’t giving us much of a break between weather warnings.

Just as a snowfall warning has ended, a freezing rain alert has begun. Freezing rain could make for slippery conditions Tuesday in the Barrie, Collingwood, Hillsdale and surrounding areas.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement warning the public of several hours of freezing rain totalling anywhere from one to five millimetres.

The weather agency said the freezing rain is expected to begin Tuesday morning and wrap up Tuesday evening, creating hazardous conditions for both commutes.

Along with the freezing rain, could come snow and ice pellets, with the mix eventually changing into all snow as an area of low pressure moves through the region.

Environment Canada says the freezing rain could make roads and walkways icy and slippery, with icy spots at times hard to see. It also is warning power outages could also occur.
