Five people are in hospital following a serious collision on Muskoka Road 117 in Lake of Bays. According to Provincial police, the collision happened at approximately 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. OPP says a single vehicle collision involving an SUV shut down Muskoka Road 117 between South Longline Lake Road and Lake of Bays Marine Road. Residents were asked to take alternate routes as emergency crews attended the scene. Police say four occupants of the SUV were taken to the hospital with serious injuries and a fifth occupant airlifted to a regional trauma centre with life-threatening injuries. While crews were on scene, the road closure was extended along Muskoka Road 177 to Browns Brae Road and Paint Lake Road. Roads reopened shortly after 11 p.m. and police say an investigation into the cause of the collision remains ongoing.
