Your chance to open for nationally recognized artists and play for thousands along Barrie’s waterfront is now. Local musicians still have time to throw their hat in the ring for the 2026 Troubadour Festival Local Opener Showcase. The Downtown Barrie BIA is calling on emerging artists across the region to apply before the May 1 deadline, with more than 100 submissions already rolling in. “This is a real opportunity for artists to share the stage with major acts and experience a professional festival production environment,” says Chas Hay, programming partner at Hey Bear Productions. The free outdoor concert series will bring live music to downtown Barrie on four separate Saturdays throughout the summer. Each event will kick off at 5 p.m. at Meridian Place, where three performers will open the show ahead of big-name headliners. Organizers say it’s a moment for new artists to gain exposure, build a fan base and experience performing for a huge waterfront crowd. Artists are invited to apply in three categories: Solo (18+/Youth), Duo (18+/Youth) and Band (18+/Youth). Everyone is encouraged to submit a demo track, social links and supporting materials. The BIA says successful artists will be announced May 15. Submissions close May 1 at midnight. The Troubadour Festival is recognized as one of Ontario’s Top 100 Festivals by Festivals and Events Ontario. Troubadour Schedule:
