Collingwood man shot by OPP officer faces series of charges

The SIU is investigating after one man is in a local hospital following a police confrontation in Collingwood.

A 50-year-old man shot by an Ontario Provincial Police officer responding to a disturbance call in Collingwood earlier this month is now facing charges.

The incident happened at a residence on Rhonda Road on May 21 around 5 p.m. The Special Investigations Unit has since invoked its mandate to probe the circumstances surrounding the events that transpired.

The Collingwood man faces two counts of assaulting an officer with a weapon or causing bodily harm, pointing a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and mischief endangering a life.

He was initially taken to the hospital for treatment. Police say he is now in custody pending a bail hearing scheduled in Barrie on June 4.
