A black bear was spotted in Collingwood on Saturday. Police say it was seen in the Poplar Sideroad and High Street area. The animals have been a common sighting lately in the region with black bears recently being observed in Owen Sound and Minden. Collingwood OPP is reminding people about what to if they encounter a bear. Police say to stay a safe distance from the animal. They say not to approach the bear but rather make noise like yelling, clapping or banging pots to scare the bear away if it comes near you. Don’t leave garbage, pet food or any food sources outside as those will attract the bear and be mindful when letting pets outside, according to police. Finally, authorities ask people to stay alert and report any sightings.
